Barrie Gott has been writing for bands and orchestras for over 50 years. His arrangements and compositions have been played all over the world.

He began writing as a teenager but in 1971 he concentrated on brass band music for The Salvation Army. Since then his religious works have been played by bands in the UK, USA, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. A list of his works for brass band and concert band and be found here.

Barrie has been a professional trumpet player since starting in the National Training Orchestra, then working as a casual player in all areas of performance. 

He has also been an educator, working at all levels - primary, secondary and tertiary. During this time he started writing for concert bands particularly at the early levels -1, 2 and 3. His partnership with Dr Bruce Pearson resulted in the very popular First Performance series published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company. A list of those works can be found at Kjos..

Mr Gott was President of the National Band Council of Australia from 2019 to 2021.
